FilmLUX Classic is a collection of filmic presets for Lightroom that pays homage to colour negative film. The aim of the FilmLUX is not to precisely emulate any specific film stock, but rather to capture the essence of the filmic aesthetic. FilmLUX Classic is specifically designed to evoke the look of colour negative film, featuring 10 distinct film styles, each with its own unique characteristics.

What’s Included:

FilmLux Classic - The main presets

FilmLUX classic includes a set of 10 “film looks” inspired by colour negative film. Each of these looks has two main variations - one a normal strength and a plus version which has a stronger effect. The presets all support the preset amount slider so you can adjust the strength of the preset once applied.

(BONUS) FilmLux Classic Fuji

Additionally there is a Bonus Fuji version that is designed for Fujifilm raw files for Fujifilm Cameras that are based on X-Trans 4 or later which work with the “Classic Neg” picture profile. If you are using a different fujifilm camera that doesn’t support this film simulation profile, you can still use the standard looks.

Film Lux Grain

FilmLUX classic also comes with a comprehensive set of film grain presets. These come with a number of presets for both 35mm and 120mm film. The pack also includes grain for “slide” film. Although FilmLux classic is designed to look like negative film, the finer grain of slide film may be preferential at times, so it is included in the pack as a bonus. There is also a set of “expired” grain settings if that is something you wish to emulate. As with the main looks, the grain presets support the amount slider, so you can dial in the exact amount that you wish to use.

Film LUX Tools

This pack also includes a set of innovative tools to help you quickly achieve a number of looks. These tools us a range of Lightroom’s adjustments and masks including some which are based on the AI mask layers to achieve a variety of effects. A detailed description of each of the tools and how they work is included in a section below.

Some General Note about Presets

Not all images are suitable for all presets. Some images just won't produce pleasing results and won’t be appropriate for the presets you may be trying to use, depending on the subject matter.

It is also important to note that any preset won’t be a magic bullet. One should consider the use of presets as a starting point. More often than not, images may require additional adjustments after applying presets. Sometimes you will need to adjust exposure or brightness and contrast depending on your photo. In the following section there is a best practice guide for getting the best from these presets, but this is entirely optional.

System Requirements

Film LUX Classic requires Lightroom Classic version 13 or later (released late 20224), Lightroom Desktop (cloud) Version 7 or later or the equivalent current versions of Lightroom for iOS or Android. Lightroom or Android versions require the Desktop version to install presets. Also compatible with the current version of Photoshop

The bonus Fuji variation of FilmLUX classic is designed for Fujifilm raw files for Fujifilm Cameras that are based on X-Trans 4 or later which work with the “Classic Neg” picture profile. If you are using a different fujifilm camera that doesn’t support this film simulation profile, use one of the standard looks.

You should also have a good working knowledge of Lightroom and basic computer operations such as copying files and folders.
